This open pollinated sweet pepper is displacing the standard peppers like California Wonder, Keystone, and Yolo Wonder types because of its higher yield and bigger size. Capistrano has darker thicker walls that can withstand rough handling. This large blocky bell pepper is tolerant / resistant to Tobamo Po, and is picked green for the fresh market. Bred for size, Capistrano is noted for its reliable and productive yields of large and extra-large, dark green to red peppers with thick, heavy walls. The large fruit is somewhat earlier and more uniform for size and shape compared to most other open-pollinated bells. Capistrano has a vigorous, compact plant 20 to 24 inches in height that provides basic protection from sunburning. Capistrano is ready for profitable harvests 72-76 days from transplanting.
