Bird House Gourd is a classic selection of Lagenaria siceraria. Its large plant has extremely vigorous vines which can grow to 25 feet in length. The vines produce an abundant crop of large smooth skinned gourds that range in size from 12 to 15 inches in length. The gourds have a nicely round bases and gradually tapering necks. Also call the bottle gourd, the fruit are pale green at maturity, which turn tan when cured and dried. For the best shape, with no "flat sides" support vines with trellis or fencing.
